The History

The Great Kibworth Run is a bi-annual community and charity event for the area. It provides an activity that can involve members of the local communities, of all ages, by competing in the individual races within the event and to raise money for charities. Whilst the emphasis is on a community event, club and non-local runners are very welcome to enter the event.

The first Great Kibworth Run in 2001 set the standards when 500 competitors competed in either the Half Marathon or the Family Fun Run watched by an enthusiastic crowd at the start/finish and around the route.

Two years later the The Great Kibworth Run was even more successful and held in memory of the late Dr. Richard Warner. Over 650 runners entered one of the three races, a third marathon having been added to the event. The winner of the half marathon was presented with the Richard Warner Trophy.

A power walk following the third marathon route was added and the last Great Kibworth Run in 2011 saw over 650 enthusiastic runners and walkers leave the start to compete in the four races.

To date, the six events have raised a total of over £99,000 which has been donated to a number of local charities including:

  • The Palliative Care Unit at St Luke’s Hospital, Market Harborough
  • Hope Foundation for Cancer Research
  • Headway, the brain injury charity
  • Age Concern Leicestershire and Rutland
  • Macmillan Cancer Support
